Peridot is a, brilliant lime-to-olive green gemstone formed from the mineral olivine, often, in the Earth's mantle and brought to the surface by volcanoes or found in meteorites. As the August birthstone, it is noted for its, yellowish-green hue, often described as "evening emerald," and is valued for, its transparency and, relatively soft 6.5–7 Mohs hardness.
